Bieber takes paternity test to prove he is not a daddy

A couple of weeks ago, the media began buzzing about a pretty startling rumor: Justin Bieber is a father. The drama has had some time to unfold at this point, and Bieber is not just sitting by, waiting for the gossip to stop. He wants to put a stop to the rumor.

A young woman came forward earlier this month, claiming that her young baby is the child of the teen pop star. She was suing him for child support, but that lawsuit was relatively short-lived. Bieber, however, has gone ahead with a paternity test, even though the young mother is no longer suing him and the test is not legally required.

Last Friday, Bieber reportedly volunteered to take the paternity test. If the child support case was still on, he would then be required to prove his paternity. Rather than him taking the test out of legal responsibility, he has taken the test to defend his name and potentially support legal action on his part against his accuser.

For any celebrity, especially a young one with a squeaky clean image, Bieber's reputation is important to his business. He and his legal team say that when the DNA test proves that the young mother's allegation was false, they might go after her and sue her for her reckless lie.

Bieber wants to send the message that he won't take lies said about him lightly. He doesn't want to have to deal with the stress and craziness of something like this paternity allegation in the future. Legal action can be an effective way to send such a message.

Of course, the chance does exist that the paternity test could reveal Bieber as a father (though that sounds like an improbability.) If he is the father, he has a responsibility to support his child and could also use the test result as support if he has any interest in having visitation rights or even custody of the child.
