Celebrity parents finally making amicable divorce official

On Behalf of | Jun 13, 2012 | Divorce

When Courteney Cox and David Arquette got together after costarring in Scream, their union seemed so wacky that it would have to work. She was the low-key partner, while Arquette was more eccentric. They seemed to be a good balance.

That balance might exist between the pair, but it apparently didn’t work to create a lasting marriage. News of the potentially finished marriage broke in 2010, when the couple separated. Now, almost two years later, the divorce is officially on, and it looks as though it will be an amicable, uncontested one.

Even since their split, both Arquette and Cox have kept their relationship positive. They’ve both continued to see their now 8-year-old daughter Coco and they’ve even collaborated professionally. It has seemed that they were possibly trying to give their family some time before they officially decided that divorce was the best option.

But last week, mere days before Cox and Arquette’s 13-year wedding anniversary, Arquette filed the divorce papers, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. If the past nearly two years couldn’t reconcile their differences, it’s likely that both he and Cox saw legally moving forward with the split as a natural progression in their relationship.

Arquette doesn’t want child support or spousal support. He wants to share custody of their child. And if the history between this celebrity couple tells us anything, both he and Cox will work hard to protect their friendship and relationship as parents in order to foster a healthy family environment.

Celebrity divorces don’t always serve as healthy examples of going through a divorce with children. This case, however, is an example of putting the child first and respecting a relationship that was built on love. Love doesn’t necessarily make a marriage last, but it can certainly make a divorce a positive experience.
