Apparently the marriage wasn’t a fairy tale like the wedding appeared to be. Realty star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries got engaged in May, married in a lavish and televised ceremony in August, and were divorced by Halloween.
Kardashian filed for divorce earlier this week, citing irreconcilable differences. After 72 days of marriage, their union is over.
Their $20 million wedding made headlines, not only for its lavish style but also because it was broadcast on the E! channel as a two-day special called “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding.”
The couple had even appeared on a talk show recently to renew their vows, but their split hardly comes as a shock to some. According to Fox News, the couple did sign a prenuptial agreement over the summer and sniped at each other while working with attorneys to determine how they would divide their assets if they divorced.
The 26-year-old Humphries gave the reality star an engagement ring worth a reported $2 million, and some sources are saying he wants it back.
Kardashian has been in Australia this week to promote a handbag line, but canceled her remaining appearances. She appeared on a talk show there earlier this week and insisted the marriage was not a sham for the sake of TV ratings or profits. Like many before her, she says she married for love but it turned out to be a mistake. In her case, a more costly one than average.
E! plans to continue airing reruns of the wedding special.
