Texas rap star remains in prison for unpaid child support

On Behalf of | Jul 15, 2011 | Paternity

A Houston rap star, Scarface, has been in a Harris County Jail since October of last year. His crime? Failure to pay child support in Texas. He reportedly owes more than $123,000 in overdue child support payments. The amount stems from four different paternity cases. The amounts owed under each case are as follows:

  • $93,376
  • $50,000
  • $30,000
  • $500

Apparently, there is no end in sight for him to exit from prison either. Officers in Harris County expect to hold him in jail until the mothers who are accusing of him of not paying his child support obligations have been paid.

Scarface, also known as “Face,” was the lead of the Geto boys. Together they produced a single in 1991. Since then, Face has been performing solo and has produced several albums even up until 2010, just prior to his imprisonment. Unfortunately, with the rapper in jail, there is likely very little possibility that he will be able to continue rapping and producing his music.

Now it appears that his children will be the ones to pay the price for this sad state of affairs. Without the financial support of their father, it is most likely that their financial needs are not being met. Perhaps, there is a reason that Scarface is contesting the child support awards he has been ordered to pay, such as an issue with paternity or with his ability to pay.

Although it can be difficult, sometimes child support modifications can be allowed if circumstances have changed such that an award becomes inappropriate. Hopefully, there can be some resolution to this Texas child support case. If not, a talented musician is wasting his life sitting behind bars, while his children are being denied the financial support that they are entitled to.
