Man who journeyed to the moon journeys through third divorce

On Behalf of | Jun 17, 2011 | Divorce

He is an American hero we all learned about as kids in history class. Name one person who has been to the moon and back, and you will likely come up with his name first: Buzz Aldrin.

Now, name an astronaut who is on his third divorce. That’s right. Buzz Aldrin, 81, has filed to divorce his third wife. Sources report that the filing occurred on Wednesday. Some are surprised that the couple would split when they are relatively old in age.

The reason for the divorce, according to reports, is the predictable “irreconcilable differences.” Aldrin and his third wife, Lois Driggs Aldrin, have been married for 23 years – a long time these days in marriage.

The couple did not have children, not that child custody would likely be an issue for most couples higher up in their years. What could be looming battles, depending on the couple’s specific circumstances, are details related to asset division and spousal support.

Reports have not yet disclosed whether the couple has a prenuptial agreement, though many suspect that they do since this isn’t Aldrin’s first marriage. Recently, the legendary astronaut worked on the popular reality show “Dancing with the Stars.” Money that he made from that, for example, could be split down the middle, unless a prenup states that income would be treated differently in the case of divorce.

This story is an example of just how difficult marriage can be and, therefore, the importance of divorce options. Aldrin is a man who has survived the extreme environment of the moon; yet, not even a third try at marriage felt right to him.

We will be sure to post an update as more details about this surprising divorce develop.
