While this is a celebrity story, it’s a relatively tame and refreshing one. Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, 44, and model Gabriel Aubry dated for a couple of years before deciding to have a child together. And in 2008, they welcomed a daughter into the world.
The couple never married, and they actually called it quits in April 2010. But calling it quits didn’t mean that Aubry wanted to call it quits when it comes to being a father. He and Berry never formally established child custody through the courts, and now Aubry wants to be sure to protect his rights as a father by taking extra legal precautions.
According to various reports, the 35-year-old father wants his paternity formally recognized in the eyes of the law. It’s not that he doesn’t know he is the father, but by establishing that point, he can more confidently move forward with other parental decisions concerning the future of his and Berry’s daughter.
Sources report that the split between Berry and Aubry was amicable and that this legal action doesn’t mean that things have become unfriendly between the two celebs. They reportedly do not intend to bring more family law issues before the court and have agreed that they both will share legal and physical custody of their daughter.
Those following the Hollywood story note how positive it is to hear that a couple is working through their split with the best interest of their child at the center of everything. Also, as far as paternity is concerned, it’s uplifting to see a father so passionate about wanting to protect his rights to his child.
