Earlier this past summer, the media covered an ugly homicide case that involved a producer of the hit TV program, “Survivor.” His wife’s dead body was found in a Cancun sewer in April, and speculation began that the husband was responsible for her death. The homicide case is still pending, and in the meantime, the murder suspect is living with his parents – and his two young children.
The 38-year-old suspect and his wife had two children during their marriage, a 5 year old and a 3 year old. Since the tragic death of their mother, the kids have reportedly been living with their paternal grandparents who have had temporary guardianship over them during this trying period in their lives. Earlier this month, however, that temporary status turned to permanent.
Two of the mother’s sisters came forward after the family’s loss and tried to gain custody over the two children. They were in competition with the grandparents, who believe that the kids are better off with them for a couple of reasons. First, they can see their dad because he, too, lives with the grandparents (his mom and dad). Second, the grandparents object to the aunts allegedly talking badly about the kids’ father.
Fortunately for the kids at the center of this troubling child custody case, all parties involved wanted to keep the issue out of the courtroom. To mitigate the stress that the legal process could have on the children, the grandparents, father and aunts were able to arrive at a generally amicable settlement. The kids will stay with their grandparents and be able to see their father. The aunts will be allowed visitation with a third party present.
There is more to this complex and heartbreaking case. The upcoming post will continue to discuss the family law agreement.
