If you are not a fan of Miley Cyrus, then you probably don’t know that she recently had a hit called “Party in the U.S.A.,” in which the teen star sings about the daunting transition from Nashville living to L.A. living. But now, Cyrus has another drastic, more personal change ahead of her. Her parents are getting a divorce.
Last week the divorce buzz began, and various resources have now reported that Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish Cyrus will end their 17-year marriage. According to sources, it was Billy Ray who filed the papers, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Some believe that it was different parenting styles that led to the marriage’s end.
Miley Cyrus has been very much in the media limelight over the past few years. The public has watched her grow up on camera and been quite critical of certain aspects of the pop princess’ life, including sexual performances, racy costumes and a unique closeness between her and her father.
Sources suggest that Tish Cyrus disapproves of how Billy Ray supported some of Miley Cyrus’ controversial behaviors. Tish allegedly was worried about the influence that Hollywood and stardom could have on her daughter and family. She is reportedly leaving the marriage disappointed in how her daughter has been affected by the lifestyle and how Billy Ray didn’t do more to protect Miley from it.
Because this is a new development, not many details about the looming divorce are public. Sources do report that Billy Ray has requested that the divorce include an equal division of property. In regards to child custody arrangements, as of today, Tish and Billy Ray have three minor children, including Miley. Last week, Billy Ray reportedly filed for joint custody of kids.
Miley turns 18 this month, however, so it will be interesting to see if and how a child custody agreement applies to her. We will post updates as more divorce details develop.
