Van Halen ex-singer paternity test not taken, not proven

On Behalf of | Sep 5, 2014 | Paternity

Proving paternity is a step that needs to be taken if you want to connect with your child. Some men shy away from it, but most want to do the right thing and claim their right as a parent. Sammy Hagar, who is the former lead singer for Van Halen, has been pressured by a former girlfriend to claim his parenthood to a child that they had together.

The mother of the boy is a former Playboy bunny. She states in her appeal before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that they had an intermittent affair for five years during the 1980’s. She further states that she became pregnant and had a baby.

The baby was conceived in June 1988 after a concert in which Hagar performed in Detroit, Michigan. She later moved with the baby to Waterloo, Iowa.

The woman has filed a suit claiming that the singer committed libel, invasion of privacy and breach of a confidentiality agreement because the 66-year-old singer named her in a book called “Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock.”

He accused her of being a liar and told stories in the book that caused her to be exposed to public hatred, contempt and ridicule by those who recognized her. Hagar denies being the father of the boy and states in his book that he agreed to pay the woman to buy her silence on the matter. He had consulted his manager who said that paying her off may be a smart action to take.

The woman states that she received a total of $7,000 from Hagar. The baby was born on February 27, 1989 and sadly, died five days later. Since the singer did not hear from the woman regarding the death of the baby, he assumed that he was not the father.

No paternity test was administered before the boy was buried. Hagar says that he feels extorted and still denies that he was the boy’s father.

If you face a paternity issue, whether you are the mother or the alleged father, you may want to contact a legal professional who can help you with all aspects of this type of situation. It doesn’t matter if you are rich and famous or not, paternity is an issue that many people face. Having someone in your corner who knows the laws of Texas can be a valuable asset.
