Divorce for Vargas may send her over the edge with her addiction

You never expected to get a divorce when you were happily cutting your wedding cake. You and your spouse were planning on spending the rest of your lives together. Unfortunately, there are many instances in Texas that prove that the fairy tale existence of wedded bliss doesn't always last.

Elizabeth Vargas, an ABC News reporter, not only is battling an alcohol addiction, she is facing a divorce.

She and her husband, who is a singer and songwriter, have been married for 12 years. The announcement came as the 51-year-old reporter was returning to a rehabilitation center to help her with her addiction.

She has been very open about her recovery process and admits that this has taken a huge toll on her marriage. The impact that the divorce will have on her sobriety will have to be seen.

The couple has two children, an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old, both boys. They are staying with their father currently, and custody issues may arise.

She was on vacation over the weekend and decided at that time to return for further counseling at the rehabilitation center. The support that she has been shown by her soon-to-be ex-husband has been phenomenal. He fully supports her efforts to overcome her addiction while at the same time caring for their two kids.

It seems as though the two, who were married in 2002, were destined for success. Both had great careers, and it seemed like a match made in heaven. Now, however, she feels that she has let down not only her co-workers, but her husband and family as well due to her addiction.

During her first stint in rehab in November of 2013, her husband allegedly cheated on her, which may be a contributing factor in their decision to divorce.

Divorce can be a lengthy process. It can strain even the strongest of people, not to mention your finances. It can leave you feeling out of control. With the right legal preparation, you can protect yourself and your pocketbook. You may want to consult someone who can advise you in all the aspects that are bound to arise in a divorce.
